(Reuters) – High Australian miners Rio Tinto (NYSE:) and BHP Group (NYSE:) will work collectively for testing massive battery-operated electrical haul truck expertise within the Pilbara area of Western Australia, Rio Tinto mentioned on Monday.
Rio and BHP, that are concentrating on to realize web zero operational greenhouse gasoline emissions by 2050, will work with producers Caterpillar (NYSE:) and Komatsu (OTC:) to conduct impartial trials of their battery-electric haul vehicles, Rio mentioned in a press release.
The trials will likely be undertaken to evaluate efficiency and productiveness within the Pilbara surroundings and symbolize the primary stage of electrical haul truck testing at BHP and Rio’s Pilbara operations.
Two Cat 793 haul vehicles will likely be trialled from the second half of 2024, and two Komatsu 930 haul vehicles will likely be examined from 2026 below the collaboration.
